Taco Bell Avocado Verde Sauce Dupe - Dish with Drew

Taco Bell Avocado Verde Sauce Dupe

I love Taco Bell, and if you have ever ordered from the Cantina menu, then you already know how good their Avocado Verde Sauce is. It is creamy, bright, a little spicy, and somehow manages to make everything it touches taste better. It is one of those sauces that instantly stands out, so of course I had to figure out how to make it at home.

This version starts by searing tomatillos, jalapeños, garlic, and onion until they are lightly caramelized. That step adds depth and gives the sauce a richer, more rounded flavor instead of tasting flat or raw. Everything gets blended with fresh cilantro, lime juice, salt, a touch of sugar, and just enough water to get things moving. The avocados go in last, which keeps the sauce smooth, creamy, and vibrant.

What I love about this sauce is how versatile it is. It is perfect on tacos, quesadillas, and burritos, especially with richer fillings where you want something fresh to balance things out. It is bold, creamy, and incredibly addictive, just like the original, enjoyyy! ❤️

🧾 Ingredients 🧾

2 tablespoons olive oil
4 to 5 tomatillos, depending on size, husks removed
1/2 medium onion
3 garlic cloves
1-2 avocados, depending on size
3 tablespoons lime juice, about 2 limes
Handful of cilantro, about 1/2 cup lightly packed
2 jalapeños
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 cup water

👨‍🍳 Instructions 👨‍🍳

1) In a medium sauté pan over medium heat, add the olive oil and allow it to heat until shimmering. Add the tomatillos, onion, and jalapeños. Cook, turning the vegetables occasionally, until they begin to soften and develop light caramelization, about 5 minutes.

2) Add the garlic cloves to the pan and continue cooking for another 4 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the garlic is fragrant and the vegetables are evenly softened and lightly charred in spots. Remove from heat.

3) Transfer the cooked tomatillos, onion, jalapeños, and garlic to a blender. Add the cilantro, lime juice, kosher salt, sugar, and water. Blend until completely smooth, scraping down the sides of the blender as needed.

4) Cut the avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop out the flesh. Add the avocado to the blender and blend again until the sauce is fully smooth and creamy with no visible chunks.

5) Allow the sauce to cool to room temperature before transferring it to an airtight container. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving. This chilling time allows the flavors to develop and the sauce to fully set.

6) Serve as a dip with tortilla chips, spoon over tacos, or use as a sauce for burritos and quesadillas.
